Steps to Success

For Graduate Students

After you've been accepted to MSU Denver as a graduate student and are ready to get started, we're ready to help you with the process! Just follow the steps to success and you'll be on your way to achieving your academic goals.

1. Get Your Student ID Number

As an accepted student, you will receive a 9-digit “900” Student ID number in your acceptance letter.

2. Login to the Student Hub

Visit My First Login for instructions on how to access your NetID and PIN. Then head over to the Student Hub where you will use this information to login and access web services such as student email, registration, class schedules, financial aid, and other services you may need in the future. Please note that your university-assigned student email account is the official means of communication from MSU Denver for enrolled students.

3. Have Previous Graduate-Level Credits Reviewed

Contact the academic department for your program of study if you have graduate-level coursework already completed. The program will review previous graduate-level work earned at a regionally accredited institution and determine whether or not transfer credit is applicable to the master’s program at MSU Denver.

4.  Register for Classes

Contact the academic department of your program so that the Program Coordinator can help you develop a plan of study. An advising appointment may be required before registration is allowed.

5. Apply for Financial Aid

Financial aid may be available for graduate students. For more information, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 303-556-8593 or visit the Student Success Building, Counter 6.

6. Get Your Books, Supplies, and Student ID Card

Purchase books and supplies at Tivoli Station, formerly Auraria Campus Bookstore. Secure your Student ID card in Tivoli Room 243. Items needed: $22 (cash or credit/debit), a valid photo ID and a copy of your class schedule.

7. Pay Your Tuition

Pay tuition and fees via the Student Hub (see step 2) or at the Cashier’s Office located in the Student Success Building, Room 140, by 5 p.m. on the Friday before classes begin. View tuition fees and dates online.

8. Review Other Requirements

All students should carefully review and complete any necessary steps regarding the mandatory health insurance requirement and the mandatory immunization requirement.

When you apply to MSU Denver, you will be asked a series of questions to determine your residency status for in-state or out-of-state tuition. All students who apply and seek to qualify for in-state tuition, as well as other forms of state or institutional aid, are subject to the requirements of HB 1023 (Lawful Presence Law).  Any student whose lawful presence is verified through the process of completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be considered to have met the requirements.

Access Center

Students with mental health, hearing, visual, physical, chronic health and learning disabilities are encouraged to contact the Access Center-Disability Support Services in the Plaza 122. Students are provided assistance in coordinating a full range of support services.

Jonathan Solsbery, Masters of Professional Accountancy "I really enjoyed the personalized attention I received at MSU Denver and the flexibility they offer since I worked full-time as I was going to school. The Department of Accounting had connections to local firms and businesses, so I was able to get exposure to them before I finished my degree which was helpful in finding a job in my field after I graduated."

Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Master of Professional Accountancy
