Applying for Graduate Programs


BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION FOR A GRADUATE PROGRAM, PLEASE BE SURE YOU'VE REVIEWED INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS

  • SPRING 2018 DEADLINE: OCTOBER 2nd (Application opens mid-August)

  • SUMMER 2018 DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 1st (Application opens January 3rd) (only for students who need to take prerequisites in the summer)

  • FALL 2018 DEADLINE: JUNE 1st (Application opens March 1st)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program Application Requirements

In order to apply to the MAT program for Special Education or Elementary Education, applicants must meet the following requirement:

  • Students must indicate completion of a degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. If a candidate holds a GPA lower than 3.0, a combination of GPA and a minimum score of 160 on the verbal reasoning section of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) will be evaluated. GRE scores should be sent directly from ETS GRE to MSU Denver using the school code 4505. For more information and to register for the GRE, please visit www.ets.org/gre.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Completed MSU Denver Graduate Application 
    • Do not complete the MSU Denver Graduate Application until after the School of Education application is available. Please see above for application availability dates.
  • Graduate Application Fee
    • $50 fee paid online through the online MSU Denver Graduate Application
  • ALL official transcripts
    • Preferred delivery methods: Electronic submission. Send Official Electronic Transcripts to: graduateadmission@msudenver.edu (must be sent directly from the institution)
    • Mail official hard copy transcripts to:

  • Supplemental Documents (submitted through the School of Education online graduate submission webpage only):
    • Resume
    • Criminal History Agreement Form
    • Personal Statement - Please submit a personal statement addressing the points below. Submissions should be absent of mechanical and grammatical errors and should be two pages double spaced in 12 point Times New Roman font with one inch margins.
      • Your interest in/reason for pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching and licensure in Elementary Education or Special Education
      • Your experiences and/or qualities that will benefit you as you pursue your MAT degree and licensure
      • Your interest in/reason for pursuing this degree/ licensure at MSU Denver, specifically
  • International Student Admissions Documents (if required)



Autism and Significant Support Needs Certificate Application Requirements

In order to apply to the certificate program, applicants must meet the following requirement:

  • Students must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Special Education, Special Education Generalist license, or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution; or be accepted in the Master of Arts in Teaching with concentration in Special Education.

 In addition to the above requirements, applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Completed MSU Denver Graduate Application
    • Do not complete the MSU Denver Graduate Application until after the School of Education application is available. Please see above for application availability dates.
  • Graduate Application Fee
    • $50 fee paid online through the online MSU Denver Graduate Application
  • ALL official transcripts

Non-Degree Seeking Application Requirements

Enrollment as a non-degree seeking student is limited to the following categories:

  1. Individuals who have completed a baccalaureate degree at a regionally accredited institution and whose cumulative undergraduate GPA, or whose GPA from the last 60 hours completed, is 3.0 or higher will be considered on a space available basis.
  2. Individuals who are currently admitted to a graduate program at another regionally accredited institution who wish to take a limited number of classes at Metropolitan State University of Denver will be considered on a space available basis

Non-degree seeking applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Completed MSU Denver Graduate Application
