First Time Students
Congratulations on your acceptance to MSU Denver!
Now that you've been accepted to MSU Denver follow the steps below to get ready for the upcoming semester!
Visit the Testing Center website at msudenver.edu/testing and click the placement tests tab to the left. Then compare your ACT or SAT scores to those required for entry level college classes. If necessary visit the Testing Center for a placement test (Tivoli Student Union, Room 347). Please call 303-615-1700 with any questions or concerns you may have.
These tests play a crucial role in determining which English and Mathematics courses you may be eligible to register for. Please see the website for questions about re-testing and testing fees. For more information about accommodations for this exam, please contact the Access Center at 303-615-0200
Visit msudenver.edu/nso and scroll to the bottom of the screen. Click the First Time Student button in blue. Afterwards you will see an icon saying “The SOAR Experience”. Click on this button and follow the on screen instructions to sign up for an Orientation.
You must attend an Orientation to be allowed to register for classes.
Walk-ins will no longer be accepted, you must pre-register.
If you have IB, AP, CU Succeeds or similar credits, please bring the transcripts with you to orientation. As most of these scores do not come in until July, it will be handy to have them for Advisors to look at during the advising portion of your day.
At Orientation you will be able to speak with an academic advisor, get to see the campus, get to know others within your degree and register for classes, including your First Year Success Learning Community! If you have any questions about Orientation or First Year Success please contact either department with questions. Contact information is listed below.

If you haven’t already, go see Financial Aid in the Student Success Building. Getting in touch with financial aid is an easy step in the right direction as they handle scholarships, grants and loans.
Click here to visit their website for more information.
If you are already declared in your Major it’s good to see an Advisor specific to your department. They can give your information that might not be given at Orientation, especially about Major specific classes.
After you have registered for classes, you can purchase books and other supplies at the Tivoli Station, located in the Tivoli Student Union. The MSU Denver section is located on the 1st floor. Located on the floor above in the Tivoli Student Union is where you receive your student ID and RTD pass. To receive your ID you will need $20 (cash or credit/debit), a valid photo ID, and a copy of your class schedule. Should you choose to participate in a SOAR orientation, you will be able to get your student ID at the end of the day, once you have registered for classes.
Tuition is due by 5 p.m. on the Friday before classes begin. This is true for all semesters, including the summer. You can pay your tuition through Student Hub or at the Cashier's Office (Student Success Building 140).
Mandatory Health Insurance Requirement
All students (undergraduate/graduate) taking nine or more credits in a semester are required to submit proof of health insurance that meets the University compliance standards. An insurance compliance form is required each semester you are taking nine or more credit hours and must be submitted by the deadline for the specific semester. You may elect to purchase the College-offered health insurance that meets the college compliance standards. Non-compliant students will have a registration "hold" placed on their account preventing future registrations. For questions, call the Student Health Insurance Office at 303-556-2525, stop by the office in Plaza 150 or visit the Student Health Insurance Office website.
Mandatory Immunization Requirement
All students are required by the University to submit immunization documents upon acceptance to the University. Otherwise, an account "hold" will be placed on a student's account. The required immunization form is included with each student's acceptance letter. Completed documentation should be mailed directly to the Immunization Office or it can be hand delivered to the Immunization Office located in Plaza 150. Visit the health center website for additional information.
Students with mental health, hearing, visual, physical, chronic health and learning disabilities are encouraged to contact the Access Center in the Plaza 122. Students are provided assistance in coordinating a full range of support services.
You will receive your "Student ID" the 9-digit "900" number in your acceptance letter. You will be identified in our system by your student ID number. It is important to have it on hand when contacting any MSU Denver department.
You can also get your student ID number from the Office of Admissions. You can set up your account through your Student Hub, the University's official means of communication with students. Set-up your account (http://www.msudenver.edu/myfirstlogin/), and Log in to your Student Hub. Call the MSU Denver ITS Help Desk at 303-352-7548 if you have any problems logging in.
Colorado resident students qualify for a College Opportunity Fund (COF) stipend which may pay a portion of in-state tuition. Complete the COF application form. You need to “authorize” the COF stipend your first semester when you register for classes through your Student Hub.
