Header for immigrant services

Dear students and participants in the Immigrant Services Program,

Following the federal administration’s decision to rescind the DACA program, many of you now have questions and are worried and anxious about the future. There are many great resources in Denver that are available to you (please look through the links on our website for legal support events and other on- and off-campus resources), and please remember that this campus stands 100% behind you and your successful path to a University degree, no matter your immigration status.

As MSU’s President has recently said in an email, “we intend to do everything in our power to support both DACA and ASSET students”. These are not empty words, and Ariadna and I want to assure you that the support you receive at MSU – through institutional scholarships, ASSET’s in-state tuition, or support programs like Immigrant Services Program or the Center for Equity and Student Achievement – will continue unchanged. You are the reason MSU Denver exists, and faculty and staff at MSU will never forget that. Your persistence is the energy that drives this institution. And as the institution is actively working to build additional support for DACA, DREAMer, and undocumented students, you can and should tell us what it is you need most right now, next week, next month, next year. We will do everything in our power to keep you safe and supported as you are on your path to a college education.

With great respect and in solidarity,

Ariadna and Gregor

DACA FAQ Sept 2017

As many of you heard earlier this week, the school, the university president and leadership, and MSU Denver’s Foundation are committed to supporting you in any way possible. As part of this effort, the MSU Denver Foundation is actively raising money to help cover the costs of the DACA renewal fees for eligible students. If you are interested in such financial assistance and meet the eligibility criteria (see below) please contact Gregor at Immigrant Services ( or 303-352-7117)  to inform him that you would like to apply for this assistance.

You are eligible for this financial assistance for your DACA renewal if you are:

  • Enrolled in classes at MSU Denver for Fall 2017 semester
  • Current DACA status with expiration between September 5, 2017, and March 5, 2018
  • Completed DACA renewal application, including relevant documentation (note: see information  below and attached for free legal resources to assist you in preparing and compiling the required paperwork)
  • Attest to your financial need and that you will use allocated funds towards your DACA renewal (signature of affirmation statement)

If you are eligible, you will meet with Gregor to review your eligibility and to complete some basic paperwork. Staff at the Immigrant Services Program will review your request promptly and will follow up with next steps (please check your MSU Denver email regularly).

The Immigrant Services Program at the Metropolitan State University of Denver is an academic and social support program that aims to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation of undocumented, DACA, immigrant, and refugee students. Through academic counseling, ESL support, scholarship application assistance, and access to campus and community resources, the program’s mission is to address the most common challenges and barriers to education that this underserved, underrepresented student population faces.

Simultaneously, the program aims to serve as a representative for undocumented, DACA, refugee, immigrant, and ESL students on campus, helping staff and faculty alike to support, empathize with, and effectively serve these student populations.

Some of the services we offer include:

  • Academic support & advocacy
  • Degree and career planning
  • Financial aid forms
  • Institutional and private scholarships
  • ASSET and COF
  • Peer mentoring
  • Personalized tutoring for non-native English speakers
  • Referrals to resources on campus
  • Consultations with MSU Denver faculty and staff

The Immigrant Services Program provides each student with a knowledgeable peer that is able to support the student with important study skills, tutoring in writing, reading, and presenting, note taking, applying for scholarships, and advice on how to be a successful college student.

Tutoring and mentoring appointments are personalized to the student's individual needs.
